The Rosemount Area Arts Council will welcome Melissa Meyers to its February "Meet the Author" event 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at Robert Trail Library. The event is free to attend. Meyers will feature "Beneath the Ancient Dust: Inspirational Stories from Nine Years in Afghanistan." This nonfiction book takes stories from the almost 10 years that Meyers and her family spent living in Afghanistan.
Rosemount freshmen wrestlers Konner Werk and Tony Byersdorfer competed and placed and the ninth-grade state championships this past weekend. Byersdorfer took third at 152 pounds while Werk finished seventh at 120. They both qualified the prior weekend by taking first at the MNGWL Regional Qualifier in Richfield on Saturday, Jan. 26. Also placing at the qualifier was eighth-grader Ethan Horn who took fourth at 94 pounds.
Authorities recovered a body from the debris of a house explosion Tuesday morning, Feb. 5, 2019, in the 24000 block of Lewiston Boulevard, in Hampton Township, according to the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office.

The Dakota County Historical Society is seeking individuals to participate in a two-hour tour review event at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, at the LeDuc Historic Estate, 1629 Vermillion St. The event is free of charge and will include a tour and discussion.
The Sports Car Club of America has announced its 2019 schedule of Track Night in America, and it's returning to Rosemount for five days. The track days will be May 17, June 21, July 25, Aug. 15 and Sept. 13 at the Dakota County Technical College driver training facility. Track Night in America is a noncompetitive option for anyone who loves cars to get on a race course in their own vehicle. Participants must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver's license, an approved helmet and a street car in good working condition.

Rosemount City Council is looking to fill 11 openings on commissions including: • Three three-year terms on the Parks and Recreation Commission • Three three-year terms on the Planning Commission • One three-year term on the Utility Commission • Four three-year terms on the Environmental and Sustainability Task Force Residents interested in serving on a commission may pick up an application at City Hall or visit www.ci.rosemount.mn.us/107/Commissions . Applications are due by Feb. 22.
The Rosemount High School speech team opened the season Jan 19 with a strong showing at the Chanhassen Speech Tournament. The team was named the Small Entry Sweepstakes champion and several students earned individual awards. AJ Tabura was second in varsity oratory and fourth in varsity impromptu; Alexis Johnson, fourth in varsity drama; Lauren Sanday, second in novice poetry; and Tanvi Adige, fifth in varsity impromptu honors and sixth in varsity creative honors.
