Irish boys' tennis beats Park, falls to Eagan in sections

The Rosemount Irish boys' tennis team saw their team season come to an end in the Section 3AA playoffs last week. The No. 7-seeded Irish beat No. 10 Park on Tuesday, May 14, in Rosemount (detailed results were not available) but then fell to No. 2 Eagan 5-2 in Eagan on Thursday, May 16. Next up for Rosemount is individual sections on May 24 and 29 at Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville.

Their two wins against Eagan came from seniors Unnath Salagram and Tyler Frey at No. 1 doubles 6-1, 6-4, and then the No. 2 doubles team of sophomores Jacob Otness and Matt Mracek 2-6, 6-3, 6-0. Junior RJ McCullum and freshman Jonah Bergstrom fell at No. 3 doubles in a super tight match 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(6).

The Irish were swept in the four singles matches. Junior Aashish Bharath lost 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and sophomore Austin Johnson was shutout at No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Anders Otness fell at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-2 and junior Ethan Welshons lost No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-0.

Bharath received the No. 3 seed for singles at individual sections and will be joined by Johnson. The teams of Salagram and Frey and Mracek and Jake Otness will play doubles for Rosemount.
