Rosemount Legion Blue sweeps doubleheader over Lakeville
The Rosemount Legion Blue baseball team cruised to two wins Tuesday night at Irish Field over the team from Lakeville. The Irish routed Lakeville 9-3 in game one and then outlasted them 5-3 in game two of the doubleheader.
In game one, Rosemount jumped on Lakeville from the start and never let up. They scored one run in the top of the first, four in the third, three in the fourth and one in the fifth. The Irish defense was solid and starter Dustan Raphael was great on the mound.
Game two saw the pace slow down after a quick game one but Rosemount gained the advantage earlier and held on for the rest of the game. In the first inning, Trevor Lucier drove in David Knoll with an RBI single. In the bottom of the second, Trevor Heidish had a sacrifice groundout that scored Raphael. They scored two runs in the bottom of the third on another RBI single by Lucier, who then later scored. Rosemount added one more run in the fifth on an RBI single by Joshue Galvez.
Nick Van Hemert started on the mound for the Irish and went four innings, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks with a strikeout. He was relieved by Galvez, who threw three innings and gave up just one run on three hits and two walks, while striking out one. Lucier and Raphael each had three hits while Lucier led the team with two RBI. Knoll, Van Hemert, Lucier, Klopp and Raphael all scored.
Single-elimination playoffs start for Legion Blue on Thursday and should they make it, the state tournament is July 24-30.
