Isaacs wins school board seat in special election
Newcomer Sachin Isaacs,38, beat out six other contenders for a seat on the Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan school board. The special election was necessary to fill a seat vacated by Rob Duchscher who resigned this spring when he moved out of the district. The term runs through January of 2020.
With all but a few precincts reporting in, Isaacs nabbed 29 percent of the vote.
Wendy Brekken came in second, with about 20 percent.
Isaacs was endorsed by the Dakota County United Educators, the district’s teachers union. He ran for a board seat in 2015, but lost to incumbents.
“It is such a humble opportunity to represent the people and the children of this district,” Isaacs said of his win.
“My main focus would be around the achievement gap to see what we can do beyond the classroom,” he said.
