On June 5, Lighthouse Christian Church started offering Spanish NOW, a condensed Spanish class that will focus on basic conversation and communication. "We are growing with our Hispanic population in the area, and we just want to be able to have better conversations and build relationships," said Bill Goodwin, pastor of Lighthouse Christian Church. "We don't want language to be a barrier to that." Lighthouse Church is also striving to further bridge the communication gap by broadcasting their Sunday services in Spanish.

Summer fun starts in earnest this week. Students are out of school. A gray, rainy spring appears to finally be providing at least some hope of sunshine, and Dew Days is on the schedule. Most Farmington residents won't need an introduction to Dew Days. It's been a fixture in the city for decades, bringing bed races and pig kissing, live music and plenty of food to town for residents to enjoy. Those of our readers in Rosemount should have a pretty good idea what it's all about, too. They'll help continue the summer celebrations next month with Leprechaun Days.
The threat of rain forced Rosemount High School's graduation exercises inside Saturday night, but that didn't diminish the excitement of the night for the 517 students who received their diplomas at the RHS gym. We have a gallery of photos from the night.
Rosemount held its annual Memorial Day ceremony Monday at the Farmington American Legion. The event was forced inside by the threat of rain, but VFW and American Legion members still made visits to area cemeteries. Our photo gallery from the day is posted here.
Rosemount High School held a mock car crash Thursday morning, providing a graphic reminder to juniors and seniors of what can happen if they drink and drive. RHS holds the event every other year before prom, which will take place Saturday in St. Paul. In it, crashed vehicles are staged to represent an accident between a group of high school students on their way home from a post-prom party and two sisters on their way to soccer practice. Emergency personnel respond in real time and behave as they would at an actual accident.
