1-0: Irish boys' tennis edges out Duluth East in first match of season
While every other sport but track and field waits for the snow to melt and the cold to leave, the Rosemount boys' tennis team was lucky enough to start their season indoors. The Irish played their first match of the season at the Fred Wells Tennis and Education Center Saturday night against Duluth East. Rosemount came away with the win 4-3 as they took three-out-of-four singles matches and a doubles match to seal it.
Aashish Bharath beat Nolan Humphreys in No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-1 and Tygen Goldammer won No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-4 over E.J. Hietala. The Irish's third singles win came from Austin Johnson, who beat Luke Hietala 6-2, 6-1. Falling in No. 4 singles was Caden Goldammer, who lost to Reece Patten 2-6, 0-6.
Rosemount's lone doubles win came from Kelson Fox and Jacob Otness in No. 3 doubles 6-2, 6-2 over Carlos Netro and Tanner Bombardieri. Jake Green and Unnath Salagram lost No. 1 doubles to Ty Kruger and Tristan Bombardieri 3-6, 6-4, 6-7(5-7). Collin Larson and Eric Otness fell in No. 2 doubles to Jonathan Jones and Hanza Rushdi 5-7, 3-6.
In an exhibition match, Aidan Buesing and Matt Mracek beat the team of Christopher Kirby and Jackson Baker 6-0, 6-2.
The Irish played Apple Valley on Monday, April 9, indoors but now do not play again until April 17 at home against Shakopee.
