Tennis party is bigger, better this year

Rosemount's annual celebration of tennis should be bigger and better this year. The city of Rosemount, Rosemount High School and the Rosemount Area Athletic Association will all team up for Saturday's tennis block party.

Rosemount High School tennis coach Jeanne Ewen started the block party a few years ago to promote the sport in Rosemount. This year, the city of Rosemount is getting involved.

This year's block party will take place from 10 a.m. to noon May 8 at the Rosemount High School tennis courts. There will be drills and games and a number of other fun activities for anyone who shows up.

The event is free.

Recreation supervisor Lisa Maurer said it makes sense this year for the city to get involved.

"We pretty much want to make sure we're hitting all populations of Rosemount," Maurer said.

The parks and recreation department conducted a survey recently to gauge public interest in adult tennis programs in the city and the department is in the process of launching a lesson-based league for adults.

"We hope to get more names of adults that are interested while participating at the block party," Maurer said.
