Gymnastics: Irish gymnasts stay unbeaten in SSC

The fourth-ranked Rosemount gymnastics team pulled off a convenient 2-for-1 deal last Tuesday.

The Irish traveled to Bloomington and came away with a pair of South Suburban Conference dual wins, improving to 6-0 in the league with a score of 143.125 that bested both Bloomington Kennedy (92.8) and Bloomington Jefferson (130.2).

“We were a little off on bars and had a fall on beam, otherwise the meet went well,” Rosemount coach Jason Passeri said.

Returning state meet performer Josey Schlie captured another all-around title, winning three events while totaling 36.8 points. She was first in the uneven bars with a 9.0, the beam with an 8.925 and floor exercise with a 9.55. She was also second in the vault (9.325) behind teammate Meghan Creese’s 9.35. Creese was also second in the beam with an 8.9.

Rosemount’s Shannon McCoy placed second in the all-around with a 35.725. She finished third in the vault, fourth in the bars, third in the beam and third in the floor exercise.

Abby Nelson’s top finish was a second-place effort in the floor exercise. She scored a 9.2 in the event and added a fourth-place showing in the vault and fifth places in the bars and beam while scoring third in the all-around.

Kailey Askew added a second-place score of 8.65 in the bars and a fourth-place finish in the floor exercise.

The Irish continued their run toward a second straight unbeaten conference season at home Tuesday against Lakeville North.
