Boys swimming and diving: Irish third at True Team

Rosemount’s streak of six straight Section 3AA True Team championships came to an end Saturday at the Kenwood Trail Middle School pool in Lakeville.

The Irish had several high individual finishers, but didn’t have the depth to match Prior Lake and Lakeville South. The Lakers edged the Cougars 877-872 to earn a trip to the True Team state meet, while the Irish settled for third in the six-team meet with 846 points.

“We started off a little slow and the guys were looking a little tired,” Rosemount coach Tami Carlson said. “We didn’t give them a lot of rest prior to this meet and it showed a little.”

The Irish’s lone first-place finish came in the 1-meter dive where defending state champion Dan Monaghan pulled away from second place by over 50 points with a total score of 404.90. Teammates Stephen Satnik and Dan Nelson finished eighth and 10th, respectively.

The team also placed three competitors in the top 10 in the 500 freestyle. Noah Peterson placed second in the event, Cody Sedbrook was sixth and Logan Vogt cut six seconds off his time to come in eighth.

The Irish just missed three top-10s in the 50 freestyle where Frank Haney, Derek Schnoor and Adam Boehmer came in 4-7-11. Haney tacked on a fourth-place finish in the 100 backstroke.

Sam Kendall was also a double place winner. He was runner-up in the 100 freestyle, ahead of teammate Boehmer in ninth, and seventh in the 100 breaststroke, with teammate Mike Lindemann close behind in 11th.

Ian Gardiner and Ben Peterson tied for seventh in the 100 butterfly and Noah Peterson was seventh in the 200 freestyle. Gardiner tacked on a ninth-place effort in the 200 individual medley.

Rosemount’s highest relay finish came in the 200 freestyle relay where Kendall, Haney, Schnoor and Noah Peterson teamed up for a second-place finish. The Irish’s top medley relay team was fourth and their No. 1 400 freestyle relay came in eighth.
