Boys swimming: Swimmers fall to Edina

Edina started strong and never looked back as it handed the Rosemount boys swim team its first loss of the season, 99-85 Friday in Edina.

The Hornets finished first and third in each of the meet’s first three events and went 1-2 in the fourth to take a 43-19 lead. They led 99-73 after 11 events before finishing out in exhibition scoring.

The Irish got four first-place finishes in the competitive portion of the meet. Daniel Monaghan gave Rosemount its first win with 270 points in the diving competition. Frank Haney won the 100 freestyle in 50.76 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 58.99.

The other Irish win came from the 200 relay team. They finished with a time of 1:35.75.

The Irish opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay. Noah Peterson took second in the 200 and 500 freestyles, Kendall was second in the 200 individual medley and Ben Peterson was second in the 100 butterfly. Sam Kendall was second in the 100 breaststroke.
