Boys swimming and diving: Irish take 4-0 record to Edina

Noah Peterson was part of four first-place finishes for Rosemount during Friday’s win over Bloomington Kennedy.

The seventh-ranked (Class 2A) Rosemount swim team improved to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in South Suburban Conference meets with a convincing 102-72 decision over Bloomington Kennedy Friday at Rosemount Middle School.

The foursome of Frank Haney, Sam Kendall, Ian Gardiner and Noah Peterson opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay by six seconds and the Irish led the rest of the way, claiming first place in 11 of 12 events.

The Irish achieved 1-2-3 finishes in three events: the 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. Ben Peterson, Mike Lindemann and Patrick Garin swept the 200 freestyle, giving the Irish a commanding 23-7 lead through two events. By the time Peterson, Garin and Gardiner dominated the 500 freestyle, it was 90-35. The meet was in exhibition scoring by the time Kendall, Lindemann and Logan Vogt swept the 100 breaststroke.

Kendall tallied four first-place finishes for the fourth straight meet, adding victories in the 50 freestyle and the 400 freestyle relay.

Noah Peterson grabbed individual golds in the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly and joined forces with Garin, Ben Peterson and Scott Maki in winning the 200 freestyle relay.

Defending state dive champion Daniel Monaghan also added to his collection of first-place medals, topping the rest of the field in the event by over 100 points.

The Irish face their biggest challenge of the season tomorrow night when they face third-ranked Edina at Southview Middle School.
