Boys swimming: Three-for-three

Rosemount’s Sam Kendall has finished first in all 12 of his races so far this season. He has helped the Irish start the season with three straight dual wins.

The Rosemount boys swimming and diving team ran its dual record to 3-0 with a 105-78 win over Bloomington Jefferson Friday night at the Oak Grove Junior High pool.

The Irish won nine of the meet’s 12 events, and for the third meet in a row Sam Kendall was part of four of them. He opened the meet by teaming up with Frank Haney, Noah Peterson and Derek Schnoor for a first-place swim in the 200 medley relay. He followed that up with individual wins in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke before closing the meet with a victory in the 400 freestyle relay. Peterson, Haney and Patrick Garin also competed in the event.

Five different athletes provided the Irish’s five other first-place efforts, starting with Cody Sedbrook’s winning time of 24.05 seconds in the 50 freestyle. Defending Class 2A state champion Daniel Monaghan came out on top with a score of 246.25 in the 1-meter dive and Ian Gardiner led a 1-2-3 Rosemount finish in the 100 butterfly that put the visitors in front 54-37.

Peterson picked up his second gold medal in the 500 freestyle and Haney topped the field in the 100 backstroke.

Second-place finishes were turned in by Gardiner in the 200 freestyle, Peterson in the 200 IM, Ben Peterson in the 100 butterfly and 100 freestyle and the 200 freestyle relay.

The Irish won 10 events in last Tuesday’s 98-85 dual win over Farmington at Dodge Middle School.

Kendall scored first-place finishes in the 100 freestyle, the 100 breaststroke and as part of the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.

Haney, Gardiner and Peterson were each part of three first-place efforts. Haney came out on top in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke, Gardiner was an individual winner in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly and Peterson claimed the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle.

The Irish compete again tomorrow night at home against Bloomington Kennedy. Events begin at 6 o’clock at Rosemount Middle School.
