Girls swimming and diving: Irish declaw Jaguars
Rosemount won 10 of 12 events and improved to 5-1 in South Suburban Conference dual meets with a 103-78 triumph over Bloomington Jefferson last Thursday at the Rosemount Middle School pool.
The foursome of Katie Garrity, Megan Wenman, Jessica Troen and Abby Tesch won the 200 medley relay by just under two seconds with a time of 1 minute, 57.47 seconds and the Irish led the rest of the way. Michelle Simms followed with a closely-contested victory in the 200 freestyle and Tesch and Grace Herron came in 1-2 in the 200 individual medley to make it 31-15 through three events.
The winning streak continued in the 50 freestyle thanks to a first-place finish by Olivia Johnston. Jefferson got in the win column in 1-meter dive where it outscored Rosemount 9-7, but when the events returned to the pool the Irish continued to dominate. Wenman went solo for first-place finishes in the 100 butterfly and 500 freestyle and Johnston added another top finish in the 100 freestyle. Teammate Cassandra Hutchins made it a 1-2 finish.
Garrity, Johnston, Troen and Simms then swam to victory in the 200 freestyle relay. Tesch followed with a first-place finish in the 100 backstroke, making it 103-53 and sending the meet into exhibition scoring.
The Irish completed their relay sweep in the 400 freestyle relay where Herron, Johnston, Simms and Wenman combined on a time of 3:45.31.
The schedule resumes Saturday with the True Team section meet. The meet begins at 1 p.m. at Rosemount Middle School.
