Girls lacrosse: Irish come up just short against Eagan, Shakopee
The Rosemount girls’ lacrosse team’s 2-5 record isn’t far from being 5-2. The Irish have lost three straight one-goal games going back to their 8-7 setback April 27 at Eastview.
Last Tuesday, the Irish led by two goals in the fourth quarter before falling to Eagan 10-9. They led by the same 9-7 score two days later in Shakopee, but eventually fell 12-11 in overtime. That came after senior Maggie Moeller netted two goals in the final minute to tie the score.
“Unfortunately, we didn’t win the opening draw of overtime and Shakopee cashed in on their possession … They were both exciting, competitive games. Our players are working hard and giving themselves a chance for wins, but just coming up short,” Rosemount coach Jeff Smith said.
Moeller finished the Shakopee game with a season-high eight goals. She now has 33 in seven games.
Gianna Freking, Britney Topor and Delaney Smith each added goals for the Irish.
Goaltender Emily Huntley stopped 12 Shakopee shots.
Moeller tallied five goals against Eagan. Toper put up a hat trick and Katie Richards added a goal. Huntley made nine saves.
The Irish (2-5) began a four-game homestand Tuesday at Irish Stadium against Lakeville South. They take on Lakeville North Thursday, May 11.
