Girls track and field: Irish win nine events at Prior Lake

The Rosemount girls’ track team hit the ground running in its first outdoor meet of the spring last Thursday at Prior Lake.

The Irish won nine of the meet’s 17 events while capturing the team title at the five-team Prior Lake Invitational.

“We had some really impressive performances last night and several athletes and relays will be on the Raceberry Jam honor roll with their times, distances or heights,” Rosemount coach Sara Hatleli said. “We’re off to a good start.”

Returning all-state performers Lexi Berger and Shae Buchman each captured a pair of individual first-place finishes. Berger bested the field in the high jump by clearing 5 feet, 4 inches and soared 10-6 to win the pole vault. Buchman covered 17-2 in the long jump and led a 1-4-5 Irish finish in the 100 hurdles, ahead of teammates Rose Sieve and Molly Schaubroeck.

Sieve also placed fourth in the 300 hurdles and came in second behind teammate Arianna Passeri in the 100. Passeri, the Irish’s other returning all-stater, added a third-place distance in the triple jump.

Rosemount’s other individual first-place finishes came in the 1,600 where Sydney Hansen won by nine seconds in 5:34.95 and the shot put where Ashley Hahnfeldt and Areana Thompson came in 1-3. Hahnfeldt also placed fourth in the discus behind teammates Megan Schalliol and Morgan Longhenry.

The Irish 4x100 and 4x200 relays also grabbed gold medals.

Alex Wolf added a second-place run in the 200 and Amanda Kyhn placed fourth in the pole vault.

The Irish were back in action Tuesday night for a meet at Irish Stadium.
