Baseball: Maldonado, Wenzel lead Irish past Eagan
Another gem by Aidan Maldonado helped the Rosemount baseball team secure its second win of the season last Wednesday.
Coming off six innings of three-hit ball in the Irish’s first game of the season five days earlier, Maldonado fanned 10 Eagan batters and allowed just four hits over six innings in the Irish’s 6-1 South Suburban Conference road win over the Wildcats. Maldonado allowed his first run of the season in the sixth inning, raising his ERA to 0.58.
Meanwhile, the Rosemount offense kept chipping away at Eagan’s pitching staff, scoring runs in the third, fourth, sixth and seventh innings. Keenan Wenzel supplied three of the Irish’s seven hits and came around to score twice. Nick Magnuson and Dan Johnson each scored two runs, as well, and Alec Schimmel drove in three.
Cole Kraemer finished the game off with an inning of scoreless relief pitching.
The Irish now stand at 2-2 after losing their other two conference contests last week. Eastview plated four runs in the final two innings to grab a 6-2 contest last Tuesday and Lakeville North was a 7-1 winner last Thursday in Rosemount.
The Irish continued league play with games against Burnsville and Apple Valley to start this week. They travel to Prior Lake for a 4:30 p.m. start Thursday, April 20.
