One bad inning costs Pipers in loss
One bad inning was enough to spoil the Rosemount Pipers' chances against the top-ranked Minnetonka Saints Monday night.
The Pipers held the Saints scoreless for most of the game and took a lead in the top of the third when Ken Fry came across on a hit by Greg Sell. But the lead didn't last long. Rosemount gave up six unearned runs in the bottom of the third inning and lost the game, 6-1.
Jesse Riebel started on the mound for the Pipers and gave up three hits in four innings. He had three strikeouts and allowed five walks. Dan Hegberg came on in relief and allowed one hit in two innings of work.
Craig Liebaert led the team on offense, recording two of the Pipers' seven hits. Chris Schwab, Jason Schwab, Sean Boos, Mike Welch and Sell each had one hit.
The Pipers travel to Becker July 13 for a 3 p.m. game and will be back home July 14 for a 6 p.m. game against the Minnetonka Lakers at Dakota County Technical College. .
On July 21 the Pipers will host Family Day during a doubleheader against the defending class AA champion Burnsville Bulldogs. Games are scheduled for 1 and 3 p.m. at the DCTC field. There will be prize giveaways throughout the day and full concessions. Proceeds will go to Rosemount Traveling Baseball and DCTC Baseball.
