Girls lacrosse: Lakers send Irish packing

Seventh-seeded Rosemount's upset bid came up short against No. 2 seed Prior Lake in the opening round of the Section 3 tournament last Wednesday.

The Lakers broke a halftime tie by outscoring the Irish 9-4 in the second half of an 18-13 victory.

"Part of that lead occurred when we were down two players due to yellow cards. From there we just couldn't find a way to climb back in it," Rosemount coach Jeff Smith said. "Credit goes to Prior Lake for their aggressive play and very good ball control, especially in the second half."

The Lakers improved to 11-3 with their fourth straight win. It was the sixth straight loss for Rosemount, which finished the season with a record of 2- 12.

"I'm proud of our players as they gave it their best shot against what is a very good team," Smith said.

Senior standout Maddie Johnson went out with a bang, scoring a season-high eight goals in her final career game. The 100-goal scorer capped off her career by being named to the coaches' association All-State team this week.

Maggie Moeller added two goals and Samantha Rhody, Madi Lubeley and Angela Bodine each scored once.

Charley Belden played all 50 minutes in goal and stopped eight Laker shots.
