Girls lacrosse: Looking for an upset

Rosemount's Brianna Linnerooth passes the ball to a teammate during last Tuesday's 14-9 loss to East Ridege.

The Rosemount girls lacrosse team is hoping its matchup with Prior Lake in the first round of the section tournament proves to be a favorable one.

The Irish, riding a five-game losing streak, earned the No. 7 seed in Section 3. That meant going on the road to face the No. 2 seed on Wednesday, which turned out to be a Prior Lake team they nearly knocked off in a 16-15 loss earlier this month.

"We feel we match up well with them.... We have shown signs of playing very well, and we have been very close to putting it together for a full game. Playoff time would be the best time to do it," Rosemount coach Jeff Smith said. "The team consists of players with excellent character who won't quit. They remain competitive and are hanging together through the adversity, which is a good sign going into the tournament."

Vs. East Ridge

The Irish (2-11) closed out the regular season with a 14-9 loss to East Ridge last Thursday at Irish Stadium.

Senior Maddie Johnson pushed her season goal total to a team-high 47 with four goals. Samantha Rhody and Sydney Narloch each scored twice and Maggie Moeller added a goal.

Goaltender Charley Belden allowed five goals while stopping eight shots and Alexis Raeth gave up nine goals while making four saves.

Vs. Burnsville

Burnsville wrapped up an 11-1 regular season that earned them the No. 1 seed in Section 3 with a 15-6 win over Rosemount last Tuesday.

Johnson led the Irish with a pair of goals and three assists.

Moeller, Narloch, Madi Lubeley and Meghan Tuccitto each tacked on single goals.

Raeth saved six shots and gave up eight goals in 34 minutes of action in goal and Belden made two saves while allowing seven goals in 16 minutes.
