Girls lacrosse: Irish put it together at Park

The Rosemount girls lacrosse team played well in spurts while losing four straight games to start the season.

The Irish's effort was finally good enough to net them a 12-11 win in game number five last Tuesday against Park in Cottage Grove.

"It was a team effort," Rosemount coach Jeff Smith said. "In our other losses we have had spots of very good play, but inconsistency has been our Achilles. The South Suburban Conference teams are too talented to play well part of the game and the opposite in any part of the game."

Maddie Johnson led the Irish with three goals and one assist. She leads the team with 27 goals this season.

Maggie Moeller and Darby Henjum each scored twice and Madi Lubeley and Angela Bodine each tacked on one goal.

Jaime Perreault and Meghan Tuccitto provided assists.

Goaltender Alexis Raeth stopped five shots in the first half and Charley Belden had one save in the second half.

The Irish returned to action Friday night on the road against 10th-ranked Lakeville South and allowed a season-high 22 goals in a 22-9 setback.

Johnson tossed in a team-high four goals and Bodine was right behind with a hat trick. Lubeley and Lauren Topor each scored once.

Raeth faced a barrage of 31 Lakeville South shots and made nine saves.

The Irish relinquished the traveling Clover Cat Trophy Monday night when they lost a hard-fought 16-14 contest to rival Eagan.

Eagan led 14-10 before Rosemount rallied to tie the game at 14-14 with under five minutes left. The Wildcats responded with a pair of goals in the final three minutes.

Johnson scored a season-high seven goals in the loss. Lubeley and Henjum each scored a pair of goals and Bodine, Tuccitto and Moeller each scored once.

Raeth made nine saves.

The Irish travel to Bloomington Kennedy tonight and are back on the road tomorrow night in Chaska.
