Boys tennis: Irish sweep Kennedy, get edged by Prior Lake

With four varsity regulars missing from the lineup due to AP testing, the Rosemount boys tennis team nearly knocked off Prior Lake in a South Suburban Conference meeting Friday afternoon.

The Lakers won three out of four singles matches, and won tiebreakers at No. 1 singles and No. 4 singles, in edging the Irish, 4-3.

Sean Hatlen broke up the Lakers' run in singles play with a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles.

In doubles play, Justin Berg and Nick Olson moved up from the JV squad and earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 3 doubles. Alex Clausen and Gunnar Anderson added another win at No. 2 doubles.

The Irish picked up their first team win of the season in convincing fashion last Wednesday, sweeping Bloomington Kennedy 7-0 in an SSC match.

All seven matches finished up in straight sets. Singles victories went to Hatlen, Anshul Bharath, Matt Simmering and Sairam Sunkam. Doubles wins went to duos Grayson Freking and Taji Onesirosan, Clausen and Jon Elias and Anderson and Shane Robertson.

Last Tuesday the Irish split four singles matches but were swept in doubles play in a 5-2 loss to Lakeville South

Simmering rallied for a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 decision at No. 3 singles and Sunkam claimed the No. 4 singles match in straight sets.

The Irish opened section team tournament play Tuesday at Woodbury.
