Softball: Irish take two out of three

The Rosemount softball team got back above the .500 mark with a 4-1 South Suburban Conference win over Eastview Monday afternoon at The Cove in Rosemount.

The Irish broke a scoreless tie with one run in the bottom of the fourth. They added one more in the fifth and two in the bottom of the sixth.

Meanwhile, starting pitcher Gabby Sprang kept the Lightning in check. She struck out three, walked none and allowed just four hits. The visitors pushed their first run across in the seventh.

Sprang also contributed in the batter's box with a pair of hits and an RBI. Melissa Seldon and Sarah Jacobs each added a pair of hits and an RBI.

The Irish plated a season-high 19 runs Saturday when they ripped 12 hits and took advantage of eight St. Paul Academy free passes in a 19-1 blowout in St. Paul.

Hailey Martinez took advantage of the generous run support to pick up her first varsity win. She allowed just one hit and one walk while fanning five over five innings.

The Irish could manage just one run on a seventh-inning fielder's choice by Sarah Jacobs in their 6-1 loss at Prior Lake last Thursday.

The Lakers touched up Sprang for nine hits and took advantage of three Rosemount errors and two dropped third strikes that led to extra baserunners. Sprang struck out 12 and walked a pair.

Seldon, Anna Hinderaker, Hannah Esselman, Grace Longman and Madi Van Sickle each had hits.

The Irish (4-3) traveled to Eagan Tuesday and took on Bloomington Jefferson and Bloomington Kennedy on Wednesday. They are back home this afternoon against Burnsville and play in the Cannon Falls tournament this weekend.
