Rosemount came up just short in its upset at 17th-ranked (Class 2A) Eagan Saturday afternoon.

The Irish fell behind by four goals before storming back to within one in the third period of their 6-4 South Suburban Conference loss to the Wildcats at Eagan Civic Arena. It was the team's sixth setback in seven outings, and fifth against a ranked team.

Eagan pulled ahead thanks to a pair of first-period goals by Megan Wolfe, and then doubled that lead with two more tallies in the first seven minutes of the second. Kendra Goodrich cut into the Irish's deficit with back-to-back goals in a 45-second span, but another Eagan goal pushed the lead back to 5-2 at 8:28 of the second.

Goodrich completed her second-period hat trick with a power-play score in the final 10 seconds of the second to make it 5-3.

Hannah Esselman followed with a short-handed goal midway through the third to make it a one-goal game, but the Irish couldn't produce the equalizer. Eagan sealed the deal with an empty-netter with 1:05 remaining.

Goaltender Lauren Topor finished with 35 saves.

The Irish (5-16-1) close out the regular season with the two teams behind them in the SSC standings. They host Prior Lake tonight and travel to Bloomington Kennedy for the finale on Saturday. The Section 3AA playoffs begin the following week.
