Boys basketball: Irish score third win

Rosemount's continued hot hand from three-point range helped lead the Irish to their third win of the season Friday night against Bloomington Kennedy.

The Irish, who made 33 long-range shots in a holiday tournament at St. Thomas, hit seven more in the 49-48 win over the Eagles. They shot 41 percent on threes, better than the 40 percent they shot on two-point attempts.

There was little to separate the two teams during the game. Rosemount led 24-23 after the first half and the teams played to a 25-25 tie in the second.

Garrett Goetz continued his high-scoring ways after putting up 71 points in the three-game St. Thomas tournament. He led the Irish with 18 points, three rebounds and four assists. Cole Northwick had eight points, five rebounds and one assist and Sam Broback and Sean Kalinowski each had six points.

"I thought we did some good things on the defensive end of the floor and did enough on the offensive end to come out with the win," Irish coach Bryan Schnettler said. "Garrett Goetz did a very nice job of finishing around the rim and seniors Sam Broback and Sean Kalinowski gave us some real good minutes. Cole Northwick did not have his best offensive game, but he made a huge shot to put us up one late in the game."

Rosemount played host to Eastview on Tuesday. They will play Eagan at 7 p.m. Jan. 11.
