Girls cross country: Evenocheck paces Irish

Warmer temperatures and a half-mile longer race may have had an effect on the Rosemount girls cross country team at Friday's Applejack Invitational in Lakeville.

The Irish finished 10th out of 21 teams with 330 points in their first four-kilometer race of the season at Aronson Park.

"Historically, we have difficulty in our first four-kilometer of the season. Hopefully we got that out of our system," Rosemount coach Chris Harder said. "We had some difficulty today and can run much better, like we showed at the Irish Invitational.... The girls did compete well and give a positive effort."

Sophomore Liz Evenocheck led the Irish with a 31st-place time of 15:51. Senior Taylor Rambo followed in 53rd with a time of 16:12 and senior Taybri Irving was 81st in 16:39.

Seventh-grader Sydney Regalado was two seconds back in 82nd place and returning state qualifier Hannah Grim raced to an 83rd-place time of 16:42 after a fast start.

Natalie Narloch added an 89th-place time of 16:46.

The Irish are back in action Saturday at the Apple Valley Invitational.
