American Legion: Baseball team drops first two games of the season

Familiar opponents brought familiar results in the Rosemount American Legion baseball team's first two games.

The Legion team lost its first two games of the season over the past week, both to Prior Lake.

Rosemount fell 13-3 in the season opener and 8-2 Monday.

Coach Scott Eul said his team was still shaking off some rust in early-season play. Rosemount had a couple of good innings in each game, but made too many mistakes in the field to hold off a steady Prior Lake team.

Rosemount committed three errors and gave up five runs in the first inning of the season. The team scored three in the bottom half of the inning, but after that point Prior Lake made some adjustments and Rosemount didn't.

The story was much the same in the rematch this week. Rosemount fell behind 4-0 before Danny Farris drove in the only two Rosemount runs of the game.

"We were hitting the ball hard the first few innings. We just weren't getting any runs," Eul said. "We kind of went stagnant and didn't keep having the same success."

Rosemount was scheduled to play Tuesday at Elko and will play in a tournament at West St. Paul over the weekend. Eul is optimistic about the rest of the season.

"We're making progress," he said. "We're working hard at it. The kids are picking up on what we're saying. They're also excited to start turning things around."
