Boys track: Dye and 4x200 competed at state

Both of the Rosemount boys track team's events finished right around their section times at last weekend's Class AA State Meet at Hamline University in St. Paul.

The 4x200 foursome of Darrell Hunt, Marius Lewis, Preston Webb and Teagen Overbey placed 12th out of 17 teams with a time of 1 minute, 30.87 seconds. With Lewis injured, the other three runners combined with Christian Hummelgard for a 1:30.12 at the section meet.

"We were very happy that our 4x200 relay qualified for state," Rosemount coach Jay Hatleli said. "I don't think they ran as well as they would have liked to, but I still hope the experience was a good one for them."

Also competing for the Irish was senior Chandler Dye, who closed his standout career with a 10th-place time of 4:22.93 in the 1,600. Dye qualified with a season-best time of 4:19.18 at the section meet.

"Chandler has had one of the most productive track careers of all time at Rosemount. To list all his accolades would take a very long time," Hatleli said. "He's been one of the best we've ever had. There is no doubt we would not have had the team success we've been able to have over the last four years without his contributions and leadership."

Despite a rare scoreless showing at the state meet, Hatleli is happy with the season the Irish put together and hopeful for the future of the program.

"We've had better overall state meet performances as a team, but we're still very happy with the way the season played out," he said. "Coming away third in the state true team meet was an enormous accomplishment for our team and our program. We'll build on that and come back even better next season."
