Boys swimming: Title is Rosemount's alone

Matthew McCormack swims for the Irish during a recent home meet. The Irish finished first in the South Suburban Conference with a record of 9-0.

The Rosemount boys swimming and diving team doesn't have to share its South Suburban Conference championship this year.

After sharing the title with Eagan a year ago, the Irish took their place alone atop the league standings with a 9-0 record thanks to a 95-85 victory over Prior Lake in their regular season finale Friday night at Hidden Oaks Middle School. It's the fourth straight year Rosemount has held at least a share of the conference championship.

Like most of this year's meets, Friday night's was decided early. The Irish won the first four events to take a 42-20 lead and the Lakers didn't get back within 25 points until exhibition scoring.

Rosemount's standout 200 medley relay foursome of Braden McCormack, Jacob Stern, Luke Dowell and Conor Manning started the meet with a winning time of 1 minute, 38.62 seconds. Andrew Urness then won the 200 freestyle, Sheldon Hatlen and Stern came in 1-2 in the 200 individual medley and Dowell and Manning came back to place 1-2 in the 50 freestyle.

Urness came back to win the 500 freestyle, then joined Hatlen, Stern and Manning for a victory in the 200 freestyle relay. The meet was in exhibition scoring by the time Jacob and Sam Stern finished 1-2 in the 100 breaststroke.

Hatlen, Urness, McCormack and Dowell closed out the meet by winning the 400 freestyle relay.
