Wrestling: Irish handle Kennedy

Dan Rosa's technical fall victory at 113 pounds started a run of nine straight wins that lifted the Rosemount wrestling team to a 38-15 South Suburban Conference dual triumph over Bloomington Kennedy at Irish Gym.

The Irish are now 6-2 overall and 4-0 in the conference.

"Overall, from start to finish, this was our best team effort we've had in a dual meet," Rosemount wrestling coach Brett Larson said. "Starting out at 113 pounds we won nine straight matches. Any time you do that, you're doing pretty good. Kennedy is always a good opponent, a good, scrappy team. They're very solid year in and year out, so this was a big win for us."

After Rosa's tech fall, eighth-grader Adam Hedin improved his record to 18-4 with a major decision at 120 pounds. Jake Baker then stepped in to score a decision at 126 pounds as Steve Levine moved up to 132, where he secured a 3-2 decision over one of Kennedy's top wrestlers. It was Levine's team-leading 20th win of the season against three losses.

Grant Jackson, Kwame Owusu, Pat Massey and Sam Moeller won by decision and second-ranked Adam Jackson claimed his match via major decision as the Irish pulled away. Jackson is now 18-2 on the season.

Kennedy ended Rosemount's match streak with a victory at 182 pounds and added wins at 195 and 220 before Irish heavyweight Stefan Sauer closed out the dual with the team's first pin.

The Irish are back in action tonight when they host Lakeville South for a conference dual at Irish Gym. The team competes again this weekend in a dual team tournament at Moorhead.
