Gymnastics: Beam, floor lift Rosemount past Prior Lake

Down two points after the vault and bars, the Rosemount gymnastics team outscored Prior Lake by nine points in the balance beam and floor exercise to remain undefeated in the South Suburban Conference with a 132.6-129.6 victory last Tuesday at Twin Oaks Middle School.

Eighth-grader Abby Nelson led a 1-2-3 Rosemount finish in the balance beam with a score of 9.05. It was her third score of at least 9.0 in the beam this season. Jenna Schlukebier and Rachel Schow rounded out the top three in the beam.

The Irish finished 2-3-4 in the floor exercise, led by Schow's second-place score of 8.85. Kailey Askew placed third and Nelson fourth.

Askew won the bars with a score of 8.625. Teammate Kiera Drymalski added a fifth-place finish.

Eighth-grader Meghan Creese got the Irish started with a first-place score of 9.0 in the vault. It was her first career 9.0. Teammate Hannah James was third.

"Lots of gymnasts ninth grade or younger are contributing to the team score," Rosemount coach Jasson Passeri said. "This is very positive for the future of our program."

The Irish JV also remained undefeated, topping Prior Lake's JV 118.55-92.9.

Lizzie Thooft won the JV bars and Cami Marx won the JV vault.

The Irish are back in action tonight when they host Farmington.
