Wrestling: Rosa, Hedin, Levine go 3-0 at Chisago Lakes

The Rosemount wrestling team bounced back from an opening -round loss to eventual champion Cambridge-Isanti to win its next two duals and place fifth out of eight teams at the season-opening Chisago Lakes Duals Saturday.

Seventh-ranked Cambridge-Isanti went through the tournament uncontested, defeating Rosemount 55-14 before downing Mora, 44-22, and Kenyon-Wanamingo, 48-18.

The Irish, with six first-time varsity wrestlers in their lineup, came back to defeat Hibbing 48-25 and host Chisago Lakes 49-20.

"It was an eye-opener for (our first-time varsity wrestlers)," Rosemount coach Brett Larson said. "But they responded with two very solid matches, beating Hibbing and Chisago. Our lineup will probably change weekly and that's a good thing as we have more depth this year, which is a positive. We have had two great weeks of practice."

Dan Rosa, Adam Hedin and Steve Levine each opened the season with 3-0 days for the Irish. Rosa had a pin, a 16-0 technical fall and a 3-1 decision at 113 pounds, Hedin scored two decisions and a forfeit at 120 pounds and Levine, ranked seventh in Class 3A, won via pin, technical fall and an 8-4 decision in the 138-pound finals.

Rosemount's Roman Burridge and Payton Otterdahl each won two of their three matches.

Second-ranked (Class 3A)?Adam Jackson went 1-1 with a pin at 160 pounds.

The Irish are back in action tonight for the first of four dual meets in nine days when they travel to Eastview. The meet gets under way at 7 p.m.
