Varsity girls, alumni boys win in Friday's alumni meet
There were split results in the Rosemount High School cross country team's 15th annual competition between varsity athletes and alumni. The girls' varsity beat the alumni despite a dominant performance by 2005 graduate Heather Dorniden, but the alumni men overcame the absence of four-time defending champion Jordan Carlson to top their varsity counterparts and take an 8-7 lead in the overall series.
Dorniden, an NCAA champion running for the University of Minnesota and a current professional with Team USA Minnesota, finished in 11:23 to beat her own meet record by 27 seconds. But the varsity girls had the next two runners across the line with Hannah Grim and Tori Grund.
The varsity girls are ranked 12th in the state to start the season.
The alumni men beat the Irish varsity 21-36 with recent graduates Shane McCallum and Chris Massey finishing 1-2. Senior Calvin Lehn was the top varsity finisher in third place.
This year's event drew a record-setting participation, with 47 women and 85 men in the field. There were also 29 kids in a youth race that wrapped up the competition.
