Boys hockey: Irish fall to ranked foes

After earning a home win against Lakeville North two weeks ago, the Rosemount boys hockey team was feeling good about breaking a losing streak.

The Irish know what life is like in the South Suburban Conference, just as it was in the former Lake Conference. There isn't time to relax. There isn't much time for living in the past because there are no easy games in conference play.

With two losses last week, Rosemount (5-13, 2-9 South Suburban) enters tonight's game at Eagan having lost three games in a row. All three losses came at the hands of top-20 teams.

Last week, the Irish lost 5-1 in a home game against No. 8 Burnsville. On Saturday, they took a 9-0 loss at No. 20 Lakeville South.

With seven games left in the regular season, Rosemount is running out of time quickly. However, the Irish do host five of the final six games this season.

Against the quality competition, Rosemount had trouble scoring last week.

Ryan Anderson scored the lone goal for the Irish against Burnsville. Anderson found the back of the net on a third-period power play, finishing the game's scoring.

Anderson is tied with Andy Gustafson for the team lead in scoring.

Rosemount goaltender Justin Frank made 50 saves as the Irish were outshot, 55-12.

With Hank Fairchild in goal against Lakeville South, the Rosemount netminder was again under similar pressure. The Irish were outshot 48-20 by the Cougars with Fairchild making 39 saves.

It doesn't get any easier tonight. Eagan is ranked No. 10 in Class 2A.
