Irish football stays unbeaten with 35-14 victory.

The Rosemount football team ended the regular season 8-0 after beating Eagan 35-14 Wednesday night. The Irish were the South Suburban Conference champions in the first year of the new league.

Rosemount jumped ahead early Wednesday, taking advantage of field position.

With a stiff wind, punting was tough on Wednesday night. The Irish kicked off to lead the game and held Eagan on three downs.

An eight-yard punt by Eagan into the wind gave Rosemount the ball in Eagan territory. Nicholas Liska scored the first touchdown at 6:14 of the first quarter on a three-yard touchdown run.

After Rosemount's Andrew Hausmann blocked the next Eagan punt, the Irish again had a short field and added a touchdown run by Kevin Larson. Logan Lindberg followed with a two-point conversion for a 15-0 Rosemount lead.

Liska added another touchdown at the start of the second quarter for a 22-0 lead, before Eagan capitalized on its quality field position thanks to a Rosemount turnover and punt into the wind.

The Wildcats scored 14 straight points before halftime and the Irish led 22-14 at the intermission.

Hausmann added two touchdown runs in a second half dominated by Rosemount.

The Irish outgained Eagan 371-73 in total yards. Rosemount rushed for 332 yards.

Larson had 133 yards rushing on 18 carries. Hausmann rushed for 62 yards and Liska added 51 yards rushing.

Brandt Berghuis had an interception for the Irish.

The section tournament opens on Tuesday, Oct. 26, but Rosemount will likely earn a first-round bye in the seven-team section.
