Girls soccer: No. 4 seed earns Irish rematch with Farmington

Entering this season, the Rosemount girls soccer team dreamed of a long run in the section tournament.

Now is the time for the Irish to see if they can follow through on their hopes of building on last year's strong finish.

Rosemount won a section home game last year as the No.3 seed before losing to No. 2 seed Eastview.

This year, the Irish will have to make a run from the fourth position.

Rosemount beat Bloomington Kennedy 2-0 and Henry Sibley 1-0 last week, but took a 4-0 loss at Eastview. The Irish (10-4-4, 3-3-3 South Suburban) finished sixth in the South Suburban Conference.

The finish also allowed the Lightning to take the No. 3 seed in the Class 2A, Section 3 tournament, which begins this week. Rosemount, as the No. 4 seed, hosted No. 5 seed Farmington this week.

The Irish beat Farmington 2-0 earlier this season.

Eagan, the South Suburban Conference champion, earned the section's top seed with Apple Valley named the No. 2 seed.

Last week began with a 2-0 win against Bloomington Kennedy as Jenny Dean and Hannah Halterman scored for Rosemount. The Irish controlled the play, outshooting the Eagles 29-3. Halterman put up seven shots.

Kate Mallory finished off the shutout with three saves.

But the opposite was the case against the Lightning two days later.

Rosemount was outshot 17-6 in the 4-0 loss.

The Irish finished the season strong with a 1-0 win against Henry Sibley on Saturday.

Shade Pratt scored with an assist to Halterman to provide the lone score. Mallory finished with four saves for her 11th shutout of the season.
