Boys golf: Reber three shots from return to state

Last season, the Rosemount boys golf team played its best golf of the season at the most crucial time of the year - at season's end.

Unfortunately, this year provided an opposing look at the Irish.

Rosemount coach Greg Gamache lamented his team's struggles towards the end of the season. The Irish finished their season last week in the section tournament.

On the first day of the section tournament last week at Keller golf course, Rosemount shot a combined 315. As a team, the Irish failed to hang around for the second round, but three Irish individuals continued play in the second round.

Eagan won the team title by shooting a two-day total of 609.

Sam Reber was one of the three to play both rounds, and he just missed out on a second-straight trip to next week's state tournament. Reber shot a first-round 78 at Keller and carded a 79 in the second round at Bunker Hills. His combined 157 was three strokes away from the final state-qualifying spot.

Reber shot a 35 on the front nine on the second day of sections.

Eric Frahm also missed a chance to head back to the state meet. In the first round, Frahm shot a 75. He followed with an 83 at Bunker Hills to finish with a 158, four strokes away from qualifying.

John Erlandson carded a first-round 80 and shot an 81 in the second round.

Alex Speer and Josh Doyle had matching 82s in the first round.

Tony Lorence shot an 88 in the first round.
