Girls golf: Bad time for a letdown

Rosemount girls golf coach Barry Wallin was optimistic heading into last week's action.

The Irish were tied for second in the conference standings. Wallin knew with a good showing at the end Rosemount had an outside shot at a Lake Conference championship.

Wallin didn't plan for a letdown.

The Irish took second of three teams in the final regular season conference meet and then placed in a tie for sixth overall at the Lake Conference tournament. The outcomes put Rosemount in a tie for Chaska for fifth in the Lake.

"We enter the week tied for second and come out tied for fifth," Wallin said. "That's not the way to finish the conference schedule."

Rosemount shot a 168 at Rich Valley as Eagan won the three-team event with a 156. Two days later, the Irish combined for a 364 in the conference tournament at Oakdale Golf Course.

"We were a little higher than our scoring averages," Wallin said. "We just played a little flat that day."

Katie Berkopec had Rosemount's top score during the conference tournament with an 89, placing her in a tie for 18th.

Emily Holtz shot a 91. Emily Anderson and Betsy Wallin each carded a 92.

Molly Flynn scored a 39 to lead the way against Eagan last week, but missed the conference tournament with an injury.
