Boys Golf: Section meet ends in narrow miss

Rosemount boys golf coach Greg Gamache biggest wish for his team this season was to have the players shooting their best at tournament time.

The Irish followed through with their best round of the year with a combined 303 at Keller Golf Course. Rosemount followed with a 315 on Tuesday at Bunker Hills.

However, the Irish just fell short of a state tournament berth for the team, finishing second with a 618. Eastview won the title with a 603.

"That's all you can ask for as a coach," Gamache said. "We played our best round of the year, and we were in position to win. If Eastview slips up and we pick up a few strokes, we could have been there. Eastview didn't slip up."

Sam Reber will go to the state meet. He placed second after shooting a 75 on Tuesday.

Collin Anderson and Eric Frahm each missed a playoff for the final berth by one stroke. Anderson had a 79 on Tuesday and Frahm had an 80.

Kevin Kearney (81), Grant Weierke (83) and Tony Lorence (86) also competed Tuesday.
