Boys Soccer: Wolf selected to represent region

After playing this past summer with a district select team, Rosemount senior Brandon Wolf was selected to represent his region in Florida in December.

Wolf will be part of the region's Olympic developmental program and will travel to Florida Dec. 26-30 for a soccer competition.

"It's going to be fun," Wolf said. "It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."

Last spring, Wolf tried out for and made the ODP district select team. He was then selected as one of 18 players for the state team.

In June, Wolf traveled to Rockford, Ill., and was selected to the holdover pool of the top-40 players from the 12 state regions. After another three days of work, he was selected as one of 18 players -- and three from Minnesota -- to represent the region in Florida.

"I was a little surprised," Wolf said. "I thought I had a chance, but it's a nice surprise."

During the summers, Wolf has been part of his select teams under his 1992 birth year.

This fall he was one of the leading scorers for the Rosemount boys soccer team.

"He is great in the air and he has a great shot," Irish coach Mike Floersch said. "He has unbelievable foot skills and is probably our top free-kick taker."

Getting the chance to play with some of the best talent in his age group, Wolf is hoping the opportunity will improve his skills and possibly improve his future stock.

"I hope to get looked at by some colleges," Wolf said. "It will be fun to go off playing at a higher level. I will try and just use it to get better.

"Hopefully I can learn a few things, come back here and apply them and continue to improve."

In the meantime, he gets the chance to spend the holiday break somewhere a bit warmer than Minnesota.
