Soccer: Inconsistency is key word as Irish alternate wins and losses

At first glance, two losses during the past week would be a disappointing showing for the Rosemount girls soccer team.

While the Irish likely aren't happy with the final results, coach Kevin Adams can take some solace.

There are instances of quality play from the Irish. Now, Adams wants to see it on a more regular basis.

"Despite a 1-2 record in the three games, I am seeing flashes of excellent play and this gives hope that there is much to build on for the future. We are still inconsistent in our play, and need to finish off opponents when we get our opportunities."

The results reflect the inconsistency Adams' speaks of.

After opening the season with a 1-1 tie, Rosemount (4-4-1, 0-2 Lake) has alternated wins and losses.

Most recently, it was a 2-0 loss at Bloomington Kennedy.

Before that, last week the Irish lost, 4-1, at home against Lakeville North, and beat Henry Sibley, 2-0.

As Rosemount gets further into the Lake Conference schedule, things will only get tougher.

Four Lake Conference teams are ranked in the latest poll. Eden Prairie, Thursday night's opponent, is ranked No. 2.

Bloomington Jefferson checks in at No. 4, and Eastview (No. 9) and Eagan (No. 10) round out the top 10, breaking into this week's poll.

So, wins like the Irish had against Henry Sibley become more important.

Against the Warriors, Sara Petre scored on a corner kick to give Rosemount a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Callie Daly completed the scoring in the second half on an assist from Shade Pratt.

Pratt had taken a pass at from Daly and took the ball down the right sideline. She was tripped by a Henry Sibley defender, but regained her footing and beat the goalkeeper who had come out to challenge the play. Pratt then made a centering pass for Daly to knock into the net.

Against Lakeville North, Pratt scored on a pass from Sarah Scinto, who had threaded the ball through defenders to Pratt who was able to score one-on-one against the Panthers' goalkeeper.
