Pody's column: A change seasons is upon us

It's hard to believe two weeks ago we had the air conditioning on and now we need heat. Some years we enjoy an Indian Summer and Harvest Moon while other years it comes and goes too fast.

I talked to my sister up North and she said it was too warm to harvest sugar beets and now a week later if it drops below 28 degrees they have to wait. She said last week they had their generator, vehicles and snowblower serviced for winter. Most of their leaves are down and their gutters are cleaned. She dug up root vegetables, beets, parsnips, carrots, rutabagas and turnips.

There was a little clean-up in the garden and yard still to do, but for the most part that was done. Her windows were washed, furnace checked and their home winterized before it got too windy and cold.

After talking with her, I turned on the weather channel and they said possible snow flurries for eastern Minnesota this week

We aren't through with the baseball season yet. Many of us remember that Halloween blizzard and the long winter that followed.

What is good for some businesses takes its toll on others. But there isn't anything we can do with Mother Nature. This is Minnesota and we've been through it before. Regardless what she sends our way, we'll be prepared.
