Church will launch concert series

Throughout the summer Rosemount United Methodist Church will host Wednesday evening services in an effort to provide a time to worship during the week.

"We know people go away over the weekend during the summer, so we wanted to provide an opportunity for people to come and worship during the week," said Natalie Olsen, the worship arts director at RUMC.

The services won't be your run of the mill church events though. Olsen said weather permitting the church will hold the services outside around the campfire. The Campfire Services will start at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. The church asks that people bring lawn chairs and their voices.

Tucked into those outdoor services will be a mini concert series Olsen hopes will attract more than just the congregation. The concerts will be held in the church sanctuary

"We thought it would be nice to throw a few extra events," said Olsen.

The series will start at 7 p.m. June 15 with a performance by Kathy Banta. Olsen said Banta is a busy wife, mother speaker and musician. Through her performance she will share her life story and speak to the audience about the power of prayer and knowing God's unconditional love.

On July 13 the Courier Quartet will take the stage at Rosemount UMC. The men's quartet will share gospel and barbershop tunes. Olsen said the members are people of faith and through their music they encourage others to establish a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

On July 20 the Uganda Orphan Choir will perform. Olsen said the choir shares a message of hope. The performance includes colorful African costumes and traditional instruments such as drums and pan pipes.

"They are really neat," said Olsen.

The last concert of the summer will be a performance by Rosemount UMC's own Josh Corbett. Corbett serves as the youth pastor at the church. Olsen said Corbett's songs are lessons about life and crafted from his personal experiences.

Olsen said all of the concerts will be a nice way to get out and worship and she hopes people will come out and see some great music.
