Last day to file for Rosemount city council races

The filing period to run for Rosemount Mayor or city council ends at 5 p.m. June 3.  In 2014, elections will be held for the mayor’s seat and two city council seats.

For mayor, incumbent Bill Droste is the only person who has filed. For the two open council seats, incumbent Mark DeBettignies, Jamal Abdulahi, Kerry Hibben and Alba Nowlin have filed affidavits of candidacy for the two open council seats.

All three positions are four year terms. The terms will end Dec. 31, 2018.

To file for office, residents must fill out an affidavit of candidacy. The cost to file is $5. After filing, residents will have until June 5 to withdraw or their name will be included on the ballot. Residents can file for candidacy at Rosemount City Hall, 2875 145th St. W.

The city council has formal meetings at 7 p.m. the first and third Tuesdays of each month. Meetings generally take place at Rosemount City Hall. The council also conducts work sessions at 6:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of the month.

Starting in 2015, the mayor will receive $9,200 and council members will receive $7,000. The state primary elections will be held Aug. 8. The general election will be held Nov. 4.
