Caucuses will take place Feb. 4

Party caucuses will take place for the major political parties Feb. 4 at several locations in the area. Caucuses offer the chance to get involved with the political parties at a grassroots level. Caucuses are held the first Tuesday of February during statewide election years.

The local caucuses will begin the process of selecting candidates for the 2014 election and establishing policy positions to shape party platforms.

During the events attendees discuss a wide range of issues and pass resolutions to shape platforms. Parties may conduct straw polls to gauge attendees’ candidate preferences for state and federal offices including governor.

Parties will also elect delegates to represent their precinct at county and district conventions later in the spring.

Precinct caucuses are open to the public. To vote or to become a delegate attendees must be eligible to vote in the 2014 general election, live in the precinct and be in general agreement with the party’s positions.

Caucuses will be held at 7 p.m. at the following locations:

Rosemount High School, 3335 142nd St.

Republican Party

Eastview High School, 6200 140th St., Apple Valley

Democratic Party
