Chamber will host local candidate forum

Rosemount residents can hear what local candidates think on local and statewide issues during the Dakota County Regional Chamber of Commerce's Rosemount candidate forum Oct. 11 at city hall.

DCRC president Ruthe Batulis said the chamber believes an informed electorate is important and so the organization will host nine forums across the county before the Nov. 6 election. Because the chamber is hosting the events, said they will focus on business issues.

The four Rosemount city council candidates will have the opportunity to share their views from 7 to 8 p.m. The candidates for city council are incumbent Jeff Weisensel, Vanessa DeMuth, Joe Kurle and Joe Zanmiller. Voters will select two.

The District 57 candidates for Senate and House of Representatives will have their go from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. The candidates for the District 57 Senate race are Democrat Greg Klausen and Republican Pat Hall. Candidates for the District 57B House seat are Democrat Jeff Wilfahrt and Republican Anna Wills.

Batulis said all the candidates have said they will attend the forum. The forum will be moderated by Allen Glynn. Candidates will be given a two minute opening, one minute to answer each of the questions that are asked and a one minute closing.

If time allows, residents will be given the chance to ask questions. The forum will be shown on public access television until the election for those who cannot attend.

Batulis said the forum will be a good opportunity for residents to see the candidates in person and to hear their thoughts on a variety of issues.
