Get out and vote today

Rosemount's first municipal primary will be held tomorrow. Voters will pick four of the six city council candidates to go onto the General Election ballot.

Current city council members Mark DeBettignies and Kim Shoe-Corrigan will try to reclaim their seats on the council. While residents Tim Judy, Dennis Winsor, Maila Ellefson and Joe Kurle put their hats in the ring to best the incumbents.

The top four vote getters Tuesday will go onto the General Election, which will be held Nov. 2.

In February the city council approved a city code ordinance that added a primary to the city's calendar after an unprecedented number of candidates, 26, filed for city council in 2008. The filing of six candidates in June led to the primary election.

According to the city's website polling locations have not changed since the 2008 election. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Polling places are located at the following locations: Precinct 1 - Rosemount Community Center, 13885 South Robert Trail; Precinct 2 - Community of Hope Lutheran Church, 14401 Biscayne Avenue West; Precinct 3 - Shannon Park Elementary, 13501 Shannon Parkway; Precinct 4 - Lighthouse Community Church, 3285 144th Street West; Precinct 5A - Central Park Shelter, 2893 145th Street West; Precinct 5B - Jaycee Park Shelter, 15425 Shannon Parkway; and Precinct 6 - Rosemount United Methodist Church, 14770 Canada Avenue West.

Polling places are fully accessible with clearly marked parking spaces, doors and routes to voting areas. If you are unable to leave your car to enter the polling location, election judges will bring the voting materials to you to complete.
