Tunnel in the future for Highway 3

Come this spring construction will begin on a pedestrian underpass under Highway 3.The underpass will connect Rosemount High School's property with the GlenRose of Rosemount neighborhood.

On April 2 the Rosemount City Council approved plans and specifications for the project. The goal of the underpass is to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety across Highway 3. The 124-foot underpass will be 14 feet wide by 10 feet tall.

The District 196 School Board approved an easement for the property at a recent workshop meeting.

City engineer Andy Brotzler said construction is scheduled to begin in June. Plans originally called for a May start date but traffic concerns with the school delayed the project.

The construction of the project will mean traffic shifts several times to allow the roadway to be excavated to install the underpass. Brotzler said updates will be included on the city's website to help inform residents.

The project will be funded through the city's Municipal State Aid Fund.
