School board filing period opens July 30

Rosemount residents interested in a spot on the District 196 School Board might want to start working on their campaign speeches.

The board on Monday set July 30 as the first day residents can file an affidavit of candidacy for this year's election. The filing period will continue through 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13.Candidates can file between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays at the district office, 3455 153rd St. W in Rosemount. There is a $2 filing fee, or candidates can submit a petition with at least 192 signatures.

Candidates must be an eligible voter, at least 21 years of age when they take office Jan. 2 and a resident of the district for at least 30 days before the election. Candidates can not be registered as a convicted sex offender.

There are three positions open on this year's ballot. All three incumbents -- Art Coulson, Gary Huusko and Mike Roseen -- said Monday they plan to seek another term on the board.
