Coughlin is Rosemount's Employee of the Year

Ryan Coughlin receives his Employee of the Year award from city administrator Dwight Johnson

A commitment to helping his co-workers do their jobs better has earned Rosemount police officer Ryan Coughlin recognition as the city's Employee of the Year for 2010.

Coughlin received the award at last week's city council meeting. He was nominated by office staff in the police department and selected from among all nominees by a committee that included the city's department heads.

"I was particularly impressed with the number of examples provided showing how Ryan works to help others do their job better," city administrator Dwight Johnson said.

Coughlin, a Rosemount native who joined the department in May of 2006, recently completed a rotation as a detective and before he was done put together a training manual for the officers who take over the position after him. He wanted to make sure whoever holds the position after him will not have to learn on the fly like he did.

Police chief Gary Kalstabakken said Coughlin has always been good about sharing the information he comes across.

"He doesn't just hold the information for himself," Kalstabakken said. "Once he learns something, he passes it on to the others in the department so they don't have to learn it the same way he did."

Kalstabakken said Coughlin does a good job of keeping the entire department aware of what is going on.
