Rosemount School District will survey residents about programs, finances

Rosemount residents may get a phone call later this month asking them what they think about their school district.

Independent School District 196 has hired Decision Resources to conduct the survey of 400 randomly selected district residents. The survey will gauge resident satisfaction with programs and services as well as ask how much more residents might be willing to pay to maintain those services.

That last question will be of particular interest to the district as it considers whether to ask voters to approve an operating levy in the Nov. 5 election.

According to district projections, there will be $23 million in budget adjustments needed for the 2014-15 school year and another $19 million in 2015-16 if voters do not approve a levy. If voters approve a levy of $1,666 per student it would mean a reduction to $6 million in budget adjustments in 2014-15 and to $18 million in 2015-16.

The district will not spend more than $15,000 on the survey. The last time it conducted a survey like this was in July of 2010.
